Anthony Ameen Dyer

Anthony “Tony” Ameen Dyer’s life began in Vietnam. At five years old, he arrived in Hawaii, where he joined a family of six — Mom, Dad, Norm, Nora, Jeff and Andrea. Two years later, Katie arrived from Korea, completing the Dyer family.

Growing up in Hawaii, Tony was free-spirited and outgoing. He enjoyed sports, spent countless hours at the beach, and in high school found his way into the theater group — an early outlet for the personality and sense of humor that would become so much a part of who he was.

Tony loved to tell a good story. He had a great sense of humor and a big heart, loved making people laugh, and had a natural way of connecting wherever he went. For those closest to him, teasing and pushing buttons were part of the deal. The more easily he could get your goat, the harder it made him laugh.

Tony found a wonderful partner in Suzanne “Suzie” Dy. Together they made their home in Sacramento, building a life that included Suzie’s sons, Matt and Mikey, whom Tony loved and considered his own. Married on April 9, 2011, their home was rarely without big beloved dogs. Tony found joy in the little things, too. He loved all things Hallmark, especially Christmas. He and Suzie would decorate in October so they could enjoy the lights just a little bit longer.

Tony was generous by nature. He believed in giving freely, never expecting anything in return. One of his favorite ways to give was through food. Tony loved cooking for family, friends, and his work family, and took great pride in bringing people together around the table. His backyard reflected that passion with his treasured barbecue, smoker, and Blackstone griddle getting a lot of use. Tony’s cooking talents extended well beyond the grill — he could master just about anything he put his mind to in the kitchen. Most recently that included making pho broth from scratch, inspiring many memorable “Pho parties.”

Tony lived for the moment. He loved good food, good company, a good laugh, and most of all the people in his world. He will be remembered for the big heart he shared so freely.

Tony died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Sacramento on May 5, 2026.
